Bar Chord Drills Minor Chords
Pro Tips:
Pro Tip:
If you can, try to name the chords as you go up the neck, remember that you are just simply moving up in half steps from the two starting chords.
This bar chord exercise is a drill that gives you a way to practice the two minor bar chord shapes that starts on the sixth and fifth string. These two shapes are similar to the major chord shapes, but just different enough to still be a challenge to master.
Begin by fretting that basic F minor bar chord from the first fret, and strum one measure of eighth notes. Then switch to the Bb minor bar chord shape starting on the fifth string. Don’t strum the sixth or first string with this chord. Then, shift the same pattern to the second fret and strum the same rhythm from there. Repeat the same pattern from each fret, moving up in half steps. Once you get to the twelfth fret, shift back to the eleventh fret and repeat the same pattern back to the first fret again. Notice that as you move up the neck the frets get closer together, and as you move down the neck the frets are further apart.
The tough part here is switching between the two chords, as well as shifting up and down the neck. Stick with it!
