Lick 1 Rock Licks In 12 Keys
Pro Tips:
Pro Tip:
Its a good idea to practice the first half and second half separately at first and then combine the two.
Use the backing track to practice the lick without guitar on the recording, or for fun try your own ideas.
This lick is a common pentatonic lick that begins in the key of E minor and then moves down the neck one half step at a time. The idea to exercises like this is to build technique through repetition while learning how to transpose to all twelve keys.
Start this lick on the fourteenth fret on the third string, bend the note a whole step and move the twelfth fret on second string. For this section it might be a good idea to bar your first finger on the first and second string to make crossing strings easier. After playing the first string twelfth fret pick the fifteenth fret on the second string and pull-off to the twelfth fret. The second half of the measure is the same as the first half.
The second measure begins with a pull-off from the fifteenth fret to the twelfth fret on the second string. Pick the fourteenth fret on the third string, also pick the twelfth fret on the second string. Move to the fourteenth fret on the third string and pull-off to the twelfth fret. The lick ends on the fourteenth fret on the fourth string, which is the root of the scale. Once you are comfortable with the lick in the twelfth position move the shape down the neck with the recording.
