Pro Tips:

Pro Tip:
Use a heavy swing feel.
Slightly palm mute to control string noise.
This Stevie Ray Vaughan Style twelve bar blues riff uses techniques and patterns that you will see from a lot of great blues guitar players such as Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Vaughan and many more.
This riff is based off of a twelve bar blues in A. The two main chords are an A and an A6, with a shuffle feel. Some of the other techniques being used are hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, and position shifts.
Begin this riff on an open A chord, hit that two times and then move your third finger to the fourth fret on the fourth string and hit the open A and the fourth fret two times. There is a lick that happens throughout this whole exercise that is a pull-off from the third fret on the sixth string and the third string on the second fret. The third and fourth measures are the same as bars one and two.
In the fifth and sixth bar we move everything up one string and outline a D chord with a similar basic riff idea. There is a little lick there thats a hammer-on from the third to the fourth fret on the D string, and then the second fret on the third string. Also a very common blues style phrase thats very useful. The next part of this is moving back to the A chord, and then playing through the turn around section of this by playing an E based version of the riff and after only one bar switching to a D based pattern.
Measure twelve is a cool blues style lick that outlines an E blues scale and an E chord.
The second half though this riff is the same as the first time with the exception of the ending licks. These licks use a mix of the E blues scale, the D blues scale, and the A blues scale. This section also uses a lot of slides, bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and position shifts. Use a heavy swing feel.
