This pentatonic exercise will help you explore some different ways to use the pentatonic scale over Cm7, C7, and Cmaj7. The idea here is to have some new uses for this very common scale. For the exercise we are moving one four measure lick around using the different scale types. In this lesson we cover how to use pentatonic from the root over a minor seventh chord, Major, Minor pentatonic over a dominant chord. Pentatonic from the fifth as well as four options over a major seventh chord.
There are many benefits to applying the pentatonic scale to different chord, the most important one being that you can get all these different and awesome sounds but still being able to use the same scale patterns under your hands. The three basic ideas you want to take away from this exercise are, applying the scale to each chord. Moving the patterns on the neck to accommodate the scale your using.
