E Minor PentatonicThis next scale drill is the five patterns of the E minor pentatonic scale covering the whole guitar neck. Start this exercise on pattern three on the third fret of the sixth string. Play through the scale up to the first string and back down. Make sure you repeat the highest note on each box to keep all the patterns in an even sixteenth note grouping. When you get back to the third fret on the sixth string, quickly switch to the fifth fret with the first finger and play through pattern four. After pattern four switch to the seventh fret and play through pattern five. Next is pattern seven from the tenth fret, and then pattern one from the twelfth fret. Once you get through pattern one on the twelfth fret, shift to the tenth fret on the sixth string and play pattern seven again. Continue to work your way back down the neck playing through each pattern. When you get through pattern three on the third fret, shift right to pattern four again. Play through the whole sequence up to the twelfth fret and back down. End the exercise on the third fret sixth string.
