A Minor Pentatonic Across The Neck
Pro Tips:
Pro Tip:
You will find that this exercise will really open of the neck for you, when your soloing and improvising.
Use alternate picking.
Focus on keeping the position shifts in time.
This pentatonic exercise is in the key of A minor, and moves across the strings from the low to high in two string sets. Start on the sixth string third fret, and play through the first four notes of pattern seven. Shift to the fifth fret, and do the same thing from pattern one. Repeat this idea from each scale pattern until you get to the fifteenth fret on the fifth string. When you get there, play through each scale pattern in reverse down the same two string sets until you get back to the third fret sixth string.
The challenge with this exercise is to make it through all five sets of two strings with the A minor pentatonic scale. Once you make it up to the top set of two strings, move right back to the third string and second string, and work your way back down the string sets until you arrive at the third fret sixth string.
Notice that the third and second string is the most difficult set, you might find it helpful to practice the individual string sets on their own before you connect all of them with the videos.
