In this 12 Major Key Scales Circle Of 5ths Legato exercise we are going to play through 12 keys on the guitar in one general area on the neck. This is an an awesome way to spice up your soloing, but also to learn all the major scales on the guitar. This will also help you to memorize the circle of 5ths, as well as all the major scale patterns needed to play in all 12 keys. This will also show you how you can improve your legato playing, and increase left-hand strength.
This exercise covers the seven patterns of the major scale all starting from the note C. You will be changing key 12 times here. There are many technique aspects of this exercise that will help you to improve your soloing and single note playing, This will help you significantly when your playing over chord changes.
Here are the scales in the order of the circle of 5ths as they are played.
C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C (C Major Scale Starting On C Pattern 1)
G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G (G Major Scale Starting On C Pattern 4)
D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D (D Major Scale Starting On C# Pattern 7)
A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#, A (A Major Scale Starting On C# Pattern 3)
E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D#, E (E Major Scale Starting On C# Pattern 6)
B, C#, D#, E, F#, G#, A# B (B Major Scale Starting On C# Pattern 2)

Having these interval formulas memorized is the key to having a good understanding of these major scales.
Being able to play the correct patterns for each in position on the guitar is the other big challenge. And that’s what we are here to improve on!
I recommend that you work on each pattern separately at first, then use the videos and the backing tracks to get better at moving from scale to scale. Then the next step in connecting the scale intervals with the notes in each pattern to get the clear picture of all the patterns and scales.
