Diminished Arpeggio Inversions
The Diminished arpeggio is an essential tool for every guitar player regardless of the style of music. The symmetrical nature of the patterns make them very useful and accessible for everyone. A diminished arpeggio consists of four notes that are a minor third apart. the formula is 1 b3 b5 bb7. All four of the notes in a diminished chord can be named as the root because of the repeating minor thirds. Cdim7 is also Ebdim7, Gbdim7 and Adim7. Because of this there are only three different diminished chords. This exercise is designed to help you connect the four inversions across the neck of the guitar.
Begin this arpeggio on the first fret of the sixth string, then play the fourth fret with your fourth finger. The third note of played on the second fret of the fifth string. Play this with your first finger, next play the fifth fret with your pinky on the fifth string. On the fourth string play the third fret with your second finger. This is the first octave of the arpeggio. if the pattern is difficult for you. You could practice just this part with the backing tracks.
For the next part, go to the first fret on the third string with your first finger. Then play the fourth fret with your fourth finger. On the second string hit the third fret, with your third finger. The first string is the same as the sixth string. The pattern for each inversions is the same shape. in this exercise we are playing this pattern from every inversion, so its from the first fret, then the fourth fret. next on the seventh fret. then the tenth fret, lastly from the thirteenth. Once you make it there we are heading back down the neck through each pattern.
