This is the classic First Pattern of the Pentatonic Scale. When played on the 5th fret, it is in the key of Am and sounds great on a wide variety rock and blues tunes. This pattern is really popular due to the fact that the it’s fingering is so repetitive across the six strings. It lends itself well to melodic patterns and can be moved anywhere on the neck to change its key. This is definitely a scale pattern you want in your toolbar. Millions of riffs and guitar licks are built off of this one pattern alone! Hail to Pattern One of the Pentatonic scale!
